Rumours
Football is always filled with gossip... some of which is true,
some of which isn't. The media tend to speculate, exaggerate and
exploit every item and story they can. This page is dedicated to
small talk from around the league. Speculation, stories, transfer
targets and so fourth can all be found here!
Chase takes up
american post
West ham manager Adam Chase has reportedly left the east london
club after just three games in charge. Rumours coming from america
suggest he has been appointed national team coach in the wake of
the sacking of former manager Bruce Arena for the teams poor results
in the gold cup. West Ham officials refused to deny or confirm these
rumours and Adam Chase was unavailable for comment.
Borl steps down
after just three months
Alain Borl has resigned from his position as England manager after
only three internationals and three months in charge. The outspoken
Belgian decided to step down after the shake up off the SAS board
and it is believed that this is his own personal way of showing
his support towards former board member Ant Coombes. Names have
already been mentioned as to who will take over the England hot
seat. Among the early favourites are Tottenham manager Buck Hysen,
Ex England manager Terry Venables and Celtic manager Martin O'Neill.
England will want to make the right decision this time to give some
much needed stability to the England set up.
Powers Cookes
up a Treat for Mackems
Max Powers has become the latest manager to leave their club. Powers,
the sole member of his own fan club, has often tipped himself for
a larger job, something which has never come close to materialising.
The most uncontactable manager in the game blamed the SAS board
for his departure, and the fact that they never responded to correspondance
they never received. SAS's Mr. Boring will not be missed.
Hysen Quits Bradford!
Buck Hysen has stunned the SAS world by announcing that he is leaving his managerial post! The man who led The Bantams to promotion and the SAS Cup against all the odds announced his decision to chairman Roy Race on Sunday. However, Hysen remains in SAS, and takes over the role vacated by Brian Thompson at Tottenham. Hysen thanked Race for allowing him to speak to Tottenham, and for giving him his chance as a relative unknown early in Season One
Hjulsgaard's Back!
Christian Hjulsgaard has sensationally returned to Soccer All Stars with Nottingham Forest, replacing Mr CJS who recently left the City ground for Manchester United. Hjulsgaard, who led Leeds United to the runners up spot last season, is said to be ecstatic at his appointment. Replacing Mr CJS is no easy task though, and this is a big job for the affable Scandinavian.
Moeri Sacked From The 'Boro
SAS Premier League Division One side have sacked manager Siegfried Moeri after under a month in charge of The Teesiders. Moeri's reign has been shrouded in controversy since day one, and has not seen eye to eye with people within the club. Chairman Steve Gibson cited both gross misconduct, as well as outside interests affecting his performance. Moeri has seemed more interested in his own business affairs, and this has reflected in some dire performances fromhis players - although his results are impressive. The club expect to name a new manager by the end of the week.
Thompson & Hendrie Goners?
Rumours have emerged that two of SAS' longest serving managers have
both left their posts at their clubs. Whilst a lot of
speculation has flown about over Tottenham's Brian Thompson, it's
thought that the manager has resigned from the club, although no
official wording has yet been released. Manchester United's
Paul Hendrie has also stepped down according to reports, but the
Manchester based club have refused to comment on such stories.
More information will be released as soon as it's available.
Carfton bites
back
Coventry City manager Joe Carfton has bit back at claims that his
knowledge on SAS matters are not up to scratch by pointing out that
the Press misquoted him. However, why Carfton chose to accept
an interview, or allow his trusted reporter who works for The
Express, Don Parker, the green light to publish such a bizarre
article will still see many left puzzled. Parker's position is
thought to be under serious threat thanks to his and Carfton's
blunder, which has been seen as a comical act from all
quarters. A leading national newspaper even had 'Carfton &
Parker for England' as their main headlines.
Press question
Carfton knowledge
Recently Coventry City manager Joe Carfton bemused the entire
country by claiming the "FA" had made the "Wrong
Decision" to fire England manager Kevin Keegan. However,
the FA, thought to be the old Football Association have not been the
governing body of English football for some time, and his attempt to
criticise them has surprised several people within SAS. SAS
took control of the English game well over a Season ago and have
sole running rights to professional English football. It's
also understood that Carfton has spoken on the topic of "Euro
2000" which England never took part in, continuing to baffle
the higher authorities with his claims. Rumours suggest that
he is either upset at the prospect of losing Bobby Robson or that he
is deliberately playing dumb to ensure he's not approached for the
vacancy.
New era around
the corner?
Contrary to some reports in the press that the Soccer All Stars
league were unable to cope with running the league, it's been
recently leaked that major news will soon surface with details on
Season Three/S3. It's known that the new plans in line will
re-shape the way Soccer All Stars is perceived from all
corners. The exciting news, which the Executive Board have
claimed will 'probably have a love/hate relationship' are expected
to be revealed within the next couple of weeks.
Axes to fall?
The Soccer All Stars clubs are beginning to feel the pressure with a
number of top club managers resigning and being sacked throughout
SAS. Andy Johns of Everton was recently murdered whilst
Chelsea manager Simon Godfrey resigned from his post.
Manchester City have reportedly sacked manager Beaver and although
unconfirmed at this moment of time, it's believed there is soon to
be another big name manager given his marching orders by his club.
SAS Cup First
Round Draw!
The Soccer All Stars Cup had some amazing ties in the first round,
with the likes of Leeds United clashing with Wimbledon, which
appears to be the big game on paper. The full draw was as
follows:
Derby County v Liverpool
Sheffield Wednesday v Everton
Southampton v Manchester United
Arsenal v Ipswich Town
Watford v Nottingham Forest
Aston Villa v West Ham United
Chelsea v Coventry City
Sunderland v Bradford City
Charlton Athletic v Middlesbrough
Tottenham Hotspur v Blackburn Rovers
Manchester City v Newcastle United
Leeds United v Wimbledon
All games are two legged affairs,
with sides playing both home and away.
Reds first to
expand!
Liverpool manager Antonio Tiberio was delighted to unveil the clubs
new 60,000 all seated capacity at Anfield after the club splashed
out in the region of £20m to expand the stadium by almost 15,000
seats. It means the club are looking to generate large funds from
gate receipts in the coming seasons as it's well known the Scousers
have huge following all over the world. The move sees the clubs
capacity rise higher than even the Soccer All Stars Millennium
Internet Stadium, which holds 53,000.
Keegan close to
naming squad?
It's thought that England manager Kevin Keegan is close to
announcing his 18 man squad for the upcoming England games against
Slovenia and Spain before the season gets underway. With players
moving back and fourth across clubs amongst SAS, it remains to be
seen whether they'll be any new stars for the future, or whether
Keegan will continue to use the same batch of players at his
disposal from last season.
Sky Blues in
Rufus hunt?
It's been widely reported that Coventry City Football Club are
desperate to land England international Richard Rufus from 3rd
Division Charlton Athletic. Despite manager Top Gun rejecting
several bids from the Sky Blues, and the fact that Rufus recently
put pen to paper on a new deal, Coventry manager Joe Carfton seems
intent on bringing the centre back to Highfield Road.
Hjulsgaard
resignation shock?
It's been rumoured that Leeds United manager Christian Hjulsgaard
has sensationally resigned from his position at Leeds United manager
for unknown reasons. Leeds United are expected to make a formal
announcement within the next day or so regarding the story which
will leave the club in turmoil after finishing 2nd in the league
last season.
Davies the
Banthams answer?
Bradford City striker Kevin Davies, a player that manager Buck Hysen
was after for large parts of Season One in SAS has vowed to shoot
the club to glory next season after it was made clear that Hysen was
on the lookout to improve the squads attack. With the departure of
Fabrizio Ravanelli, whose loan deal expired at the end of last
season, it's been known that the side lack a quality forward despite
good performances from the likes of Noel Whelan and Mikkel Beck.
Roberto Baggio appears to be top of the list but Davies, whose been
free scoring in pre-season, wants to be sure he's the main man for
the club this season.
Newell desperate
for income?
Southampton manager Jamie Newell is reportedly desperate for a cash
injection. It seems that the clubs funds are severely limited after
the high profile signings of Alan Shearer and Gareth Southgate
towards the end of last season. With the club still having to sell
before they can buy, it could be some time before they can really
become just a buying club. The £10m sale of Marian Pahars to
Manchester United financed the Shearer signing and plenty of small
sales and signings ensured Gareth Southgate's arrival. However The
Saints will have to rely on good form on the field this season if
they are to ensure that more money rolls into The Dell.
Gallery back in
SAS?
A news story this week that will have the alarm bells ringing for
all managers and clubs around SAS with the imminent return to
management for Rory Gallery. Gallery, who made a name for himself
with Liverpool in SAS is said to have tied up a deal with a vacant
SAS club although nothing has been confirmed at this moment of time.
Sources close to the Irish manager has hinted that Newcastle United
are the team he is likely to tie up his services with. The Irishman
quit Liverpool and Anfield last season after the board allegedly
went behind his back and sold star striker Michael Owen to Tottenham
Hotspur.
Hysen to ditch
Weatherall?
After The Banthams recently issued their squad numbers for the
new season, it's been made apparent and fears are growing for the
future of centre back David Weatherall. The lanky defender only
managed to secure the number 17 shirt despite his on field antics
last season which saw the club promoted to Division 1 and also lift
the first ever SAS Cup. The Yorkshire man is said to be devastated
with the new number and is currently considering his future at
Valley Parade.
Stam back at the
bridge?
Stories from The New Plough Stadium have leaked out suggesting
that star defender Jaap Stam is on his way back to Chelsea after
only a few weeks at the club. The Dutch giant is said to be unhappy
with the clubs future ambitions and size. With Simon Godfrey now in
charge at Stamford Bridge, it's said that the clubs have already
agreed a fee for his return.
Borl an unhappy
Don?
It's been recently revealed that Wimbledon manager Alain Borl
was so devastated by the clubs relegation to the Second Division
that he wants out altogether with a string of clubs after his
signature. Watford are said to be the favourites to land the former
Leeds United manager with only his salary causing cause for concern.
